Hi and welcome to Cuckoo's Nest, the English Ceilidh band from Staffordshire and Cheshire, England.
What do we do?We are a small (but perfectly formed) band for all sorts of occasions that play tunes for ceilidhs, barn dances or hoe downs. The line up is melodeon, rhythm and lead guitar, bass guitar and occasionally drums plus the caller. What is a ceilidh? Variously described as the most fun you can have with your clothes on and a sort of barn dance with attitude. Having nicked the celtic term for a night of song, story telling and dance, it nowadays is used for a style of playing and dancing that discourages walking through. The band plays primarily English and our own tunes textured in driving rhythms for stepping. What occasions?Anywhere there are a lot of people who want to have a sweaty time dancing. They don't need to know the moves (a basic knowledge of left from right, what those of a different gender look like and being able to count at least up to 8) as the caller will be able to describe what should happen. We have played for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, leaving dos, fund raisers, charities, festivals, social gatherings and even a couple of divorces. Where do we play?Where do you want us? Hotels, village halls, community centres, pubs (our favourite), gardens (big ones), barns, marquees, social or sports clubs. In fact any where there is space for people to dance and there is power for our PA and lights. Our main area for working is Staffs, Salop, Cheshire, South Manchester, East and West Midlands, North Warks. What nextHave a look around our site and see what's up.
